Learn Insider Secrets of the Film biz without the expense of Film School!

Everything you always wanted to know about filmmaking, but you didn't learn in film school.

Hi,

My name is Lennie Appelquist. I have been a successful DGA 1st Assistant Director, Unit Production Manager, Producer and freelancer in the film business for almost 20 years. I have worked on big movies like Pretty Woman, Pacific Heights, The Doors, Point Break, Wayne's World, Army of Darkness and Training Day. I have been the 1st AD on over 200 music videos and 200+ commercials. A few years ago, I jumped into the world of Indy Film with Directors who's experience, like mine, was on very large Features, TV, commercials and music videos. What happened next was quite amazing! On these Indy Films, we applied techniques that we had used on film projects with 100 times the budget. Now, I am going to share them with you.

By attending the FREE teleclasses at Film School by Phone, you will learn how to:

  • jumpstart your career in the Film Business no matter where you live,
  • make your own feature films, shorts, trailers, commercials and music videos and
  • best yet, how to make money with your projects,

just like the BIG GUYS!

There are many film schools to choose from today. University programs cost $30,000 or more, per year just for tuition. So a four year undergraduate degree in Film at that rate would cost $120,000 for tuition and probably another $40,000-$50,000 for living expenses. The grand total could easily be $160,000 or more!

In most cases, each student must finance their own final film project while in school. For example, if a senior film is required to graduate that can cost another $10,000-$20,000. At NYU, and other private film schools these costs can add up to a large student loan debt. Some budgets blossom to $100,000 or more (even if their not supposed to).

The average NYU film school student graduate $65,000 in debt.

Here's what some Film Schools are charging:

  • Los Angeles Film School: $36,000
  • New York Film Academy: $34,000
  • Full Sail Film School Program: $54,420
  • San Francisco School of Digital Filmmaking: $27,900
  • Florida State University Film School: $14,585 (If you live in Florida, otherwise double it)
  • American Film Institute: $57,987 (first year)

Film schools at public colleges and universities typically cost less. But the total cost of four years of tuition, living expenses, and possible film projects can still total well over $50,000. And at these "Film Schools", do you really learn what you need to succeed in the film business?

Getting a degree in film is no guarantee that you will find a job in the film industry. In fact, there are so few openings that only a very small number of people with new film school degrees find work in the film industry. That's why one of the courses I teach is "Getting your first job in the film business".

Here's what people are saying:

After the 1st teleclass, all you have to do is let me know when. I'll be on again.

I just wanted to say a huge THANKS!! all the way from New Zealand. Film school by phone was awesome, I took a lot of notes from what you said, the whole call was awesome. Thank you soooo much! I'll definitely be calling into the next one!!

--Mary, Newmarket, Auckland New Zealand

I just wanted to say thank you for your classes. As an inexperienced filmmaker in the middle of a non-film community and with high hopes and ambitions, it's great for someone like you to offer up help to someone like me. Have a great day and thanks.

--John Goodman

You should start your own film school. I've learned more from your MySpace page than I did at Columbia College Chicago in a year.

--Ryan Higgins, Chicago Illinois

Film School by Phone will arm you with all the information you need to make your own film, trailer, short, music video or commercial. Or if you just want to get your first job or move up the ladder in the film industry, we can help with that too.

We will give you tips and tricks used by the biggest filmmakers and show you how to use them on your smaller projects

Sam Raimi, the director who I worked with on Army of Darkness, who went on to direct the Spiderman trilogy, got his start by making an 8mm short film with his friends called Within the Woods in 1978. He used his short to get the funding for his first feature, The Evil Dead. He made movies with the means he had available, and was creative about his decisions to find funding. He didn't go to film school. He made films. He used his first film as a calling card -- a means to raise money for a bigger project. We will give you all the tools you need to make your film a GREAT film!

This is not to say that film schools are bad. They aren't. But simply put, in many cases, film school graduates aren't truly armed with what they need to succeed as filmmakers or in the film business. Film School by phone gives real world advise, pratical lessons and lots of insider secrets! We want our students to be this generation's rising and successful filmmakers.
